Senior Communications Manager
As Senior Communications Manager, Emma creates and delivers communications strategies and campaigns to amplify Common Seas' work in tackling plastic pollution, with a focus on human health, community-led projects, SIDS and the just transition.
Emma specialises in targeted campaigning and fostering thought leadership on social and environmental justice issues. Emma led the launch of landmark corporate plastics data and campaigns on the Global Plastics Treaty for environmental disclosure organisation, CDP. She has also led communications for nonprofits on disability rights and gender equality.
Driven by her desire to see a world where environmental justice is at the heart of policymaking and movement-building, Emma volunteers for several NGOs outside of work. She is an ‘Environmenstrual Ambassador' with the Women's Environmental Network, delivering workshops highlighting the health and environmental impacts of single-use period products.
Emma’s commitment to Common Seas’ mission is both personal and political. She grew up by the sea in Cornwall and enjoys spending time climbing in coastal landscapes around the world. She also wrote her master’s degree thesis on environmental justice with a focus on the postcolonial roots of Hurricane Katrina and the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. Emma is eager to continue raising awareness of the unequal impacts of our interconnected environmental crises on frontline communities and small island states through Common Seas’ work to tackle plastic pollution.
